Over 80 human remains found

2014 Feb 26

human remains have been found so far from the mass grave in Mannar, the police and officials said today.

According to the police, 11 human remains had been unearthed during excavation work carried out yesterday.

This raised to 80 the number of remains, including skeletal bones found from the site so far.

The police said that the skeletal remains found at the grave in Thiruketheeswaram, Mannar have not yet been identified.

The CID is investigating the discovery of the mass grave in the area which was once under LTTE control.

Construction workers in the area stumbled on at least 10 skeletal remains buried at the location last December where they were laying a new water pipe.

Excavation and forensic examinations later began in the presence of judicial officers.
